‘Starlight Order’: from Y Gododdin to In Parenthesis

Nawr yr Arwr / Now The Hero, a major production commissioned to commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World War, took place in Swansea in September 2018. The performance was informed by the medieval Welsh poem, Y Gododdin.

This exhibition took Y Gododdin as its starting point, and through written and illustrated manuscripts explored how it influenced David Jones’ own epic, In Parenthesis. It was during the BBC recording of In Parenthesis that Dylan Thomas first met Richard Burton, who both acted in the production.

This Exhibition was presented in partnership with the National Library of Wales and with thanks to the Estate of David Jones.
