Writing a historical thriller: it is not only what you write, but how you write it.
How do you create a convincing plot, compelling characterisation, decent dialogue, pace, and setting in a historical thriller?
In this workshop, led by Anne Lauppe-Dunbar, we will investigate how to incorporate factual events into fiction, how to approach an event through a different lens, or a fresh angle.
Whilst ideal for those who have an event they want to put on the page, this historical thriller workshop will also aid those who know they want to write, but are uncertain how to get started.
Anne Lauppe-Dunbar is a full time lecturer in Creative Writing at Swansea University, Wales. Her first novel Dark Mermaids, tells the story of the doping scandal in the former German Democratic Republic through a young woman’s search for home. The novel was shortlisted for the Impress Prize in 2012, and is released with Seren September 2015.
Anne Lauppe-Dunbar has short stories in the named Seren anthology – Sing Sorrow Sorrow, First Edition Magazine, The View from Here, Islet Magazine, The Swansea Review, of which she is co-editor, and Bristol Flash Fiction. Her poetry is published with Cinnamon Press, Leaf Books and Seventh Quarry.
